My first lecture of the term was today at 9am: Operating Systems II. Paul Paulson, OSU instructor, detailed what I have known for a few months: this class will now use the Linux Kernel and simulate a class size open source community. The required text is “Linux Kernel Development” by Robert Love (a book I recently read and enjoyed) and halfway through the term a special lecture by Greg KH is scheduled! It should be a great course.

I started reading that book today, that Love is a funny guy.
See you in class.
Dang it, that’s totally a class I should have taken
You might wanna check out the O’Reilly kernel book too, and LDD3 is available free online.
This is one of the best things I’ve heard come out of the OSU CS department in a long time. Paul Paulson is perhaps the best of the CS teachers I had at OSU, and the fact that they’re now tying the class to a real-world, applicable product is an incredible development for CS students.
Next up for me is inventing a time machine so I can reap the new OSU benefits like this 411 class, the new engineering building, and the new and improved Reser stadium.
