Kubernetes sessions at CoreOS Fest

CoreOS Fest, the distributed systems, containers and Kubernetes conference, is coming up on May 31 and June 1 in San Francisco. This two-day event is the only 2017 West Coast conference for those in the Kubernetes community (new and seasoned alike) to come together and share stories, and we want to make sure you are all planning to be there. Last year, the event was in Berlin, and for its third year CoreOS is bringing the conference back to San Francisco.

Kubernetes talks at CoreOS Fest
Here is your guide to the Kubernetes talks at CoreOS Fest 2017:
Before CoreOS Fest begins:
- Attend a pre-conference Kubernetes workshop at the Google launchpad office on Tuesday, May 30 at 1 p.m. ET. Seating is limited, so note that registering early is encouraged!
- Also join a free meetup on Tuesday, May 30 at 6:30 PM PT in San Francisco.
Highlights for CoreOS Fest day 1:
- On May 31, Alex Polvi, CEO of CoreOS, will kick off CoreOS Fest in a keynote that will be sure to discuss Kubernetes and the vision from CoreOS.
- A morning keynote on Cluster Management at Google - Borg and Kubernetes will be presented by the esteemed John Wilkes, Principal Software Engineer, Google.
- Brandon Chavis of AWS, Kraig Amador of Ticketmaster, and Josh Rosso of CoreOS will present the new open source project, the Kubernetes Ingress Controller for AWS ALB.
- Ever wanted to implement a custom controller? Aaron Levy of CoreOS will show you how in this talk.
- Join this session presented by Oliver Beattie of Monzo Bank, who was recently noted in CBR’s 30 under 30 in cloud list, about Securing your Infrastructure on CoreOS and Kubernetes.
- Explore how Helm, the package manager for Kubernetes, streamlines the creating and managing of applications running on Kubernetes with this talk from Michelle Noorali and Matt Butcher from Deis (Microsoft).
- If you are interested in a deep dive into the underlying technologies that make up a "container," be sure to join this session from Eric Chiang of CoreOS.
- Don’t miss a community-focused panel, there’s more than code in open source, that will feature Sarah Novotny of the Kubernetes community, Matthew Garrett of Google, and Lauren Sell from the OpenStack Foundation, moderated by Alex Williams of The New Stack.
- Join Ruben Vermeersch of Ticketmatic to learn about how the company uses Kubernetes and Container Linux.
- Get help troubleshooting Kubernetes with Gianluca Borello of Sysdig in his afternoon workshop.
Highlights for CoreOS Fest day 2:
- On June 1, don’t miss a keynote from Brandon Philips, CTO of CoreOS, which will include more intel for the Kubernetes community.
- A panel on the future is Kubernetes will feature entrepreneurs, Alex Kern of Pavlov, Kevin Wang of Fossa, and Foud Matin of VotePlz, building their companies on Kubernetes, moderated by Matt Weinberger.
- Dive into the security track with a talk on Using Kubernetes in Hostile Networks by Bryan Richardson of Dark3 Inc.
- Get a deep dive into the story of how Skytap’s developers and operations engineers use Docker and Kubernetes.
- For those who want to learn about end to end Kubernetes monitoring with Prometheus, join a talk from Frederic Branczyk of CoreOS.
- Kubernetes leaders Brendan Burns, co-founder of the Kubernetes open source project, and Aparna Sinha, product management team at Google for Kubernetes, will join a panel, Linux -> Kubernetes: Security in a two-distribution world. Alex Crawford, CoreOS, also joins the panel to discuss Container Linux and Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols of ZDNet will moderate. You may recall the first CoreOS Fest in 2015 included a technical intro to Kubernetes by Brendan.
- Review the history of persistent storage in Kubernetes and see how emerging techniques, including CoreOS’s Operator paradigm as well as distributed storage engines like Rook.io are changing the state of state in containers in this talk by Ross Kukulinski and Luis Pabón.
Workshop at CoreOS Fest on Day 2:
- Join a Helm hack night at 6:30 p.m. to close out the event!
Leadership and registration for CoreOS Fest
Not only will the community be encouraged to join CoreOS Fest on the conference days, but additionally, the Kubernetes leadership team will be meeting in full swing on Friday, June 2 to make sure the needs of the Kubernetes community are well-organized and the community will continue to flourish as we charge forward for years to come.
