One month ago, CoreOS announced a collaboration with Intel to deploy and manage OpenStack using Kubernetes. Today at OpenStack Summit in Austin, CoreOS takes the next step by introducing "Stackanetes", an initiative to make operating OpenStack as simple as running any application on Kubernetes.
"Stackanetes" deploys standard OpenStack services into containers and uses Kubernetes' robust application lifecycle management capabilities to deliver a single platform for companies to run OpenStack Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and container workloads. CoreOS is working with the broader OpenStack community to integrate "Stackanetes" into upstream OpenStack.
Today at the OpenStack Summit keynote, CoreOS CEO Alex Polvi will demonstrate the power of "Stackanetes" with Tectonic, the commercial distribution of the combined Kubernetes and CoreOS stack. Tectonic delivers GIFEE ("Google Infrastructure for Everyone Else") as a solution – a hyperscale, infrastructure platform that focuses on securely and reliably deploying and managing distributed applications.
